Saturday, 12 August – Manistee, Orchard Beach SP

Left Petoskey, forgot to turn onto HWY 31 so had to turn back a few blocks.  Lake Michigan has got her frills on today.

Lake Mich
We passed the 45th parallel which was marked by a sign but there was no warning so no photo.

Saw lots of cherry trees, Traverse Bay is apparently the cherry capital of the world.  Got diesel at Traverse City - got groceries at Traverse City.  Traverse City on a Saturday is a nightmare to drive through, we bailed from the coastal route and scooted around the back of the town to try and avoid some of the traffic congestion.

Coming into Traverse City, many resorts line the lake shore
Got to Orchard Beach, thought it would be awesomely beachy, as the satellite map showed, but the lake is heaving and the onshore wind chills is decidedly chilly, doesn’t feel like 23C.  I think we have done enough of lakes with onshore winds, especially this far north at this time of year, it’s too cold.

Just a couple of steps down to the "beach"
The west coast of Lake Michigan is also the best place to view sunsets and it all played out right in front of our coach tonight..
