Sun shine again this morning. No messing around with too many cups of tea
and board meetings today. We are on the
road by 10 am heading east through the tiny town of Pocohontas (cute), then the
lovely little town of Shiloh with it’s lovely houses on huge sections and the
much larger town of Savannah, where we stop for supplies at Walmart (suffering
withdrawals, haven’t been for five days).
We are taking the scenic route today, especially researched
and put into action, the drive was lovely and the traffic was light. Along the Natchez Trace Parkway, which truly
seems untouched by the rat race - the limited signage is relevant just to the
towns and parks bordering the road, there are few ‘intersections’ or placed where you can depart or join the parkway so you
need to think ahead.

The only bit of bother was when the GPS wanted to take us under
an 11 foot bridge! Noooo! We need 12’6” - so we did a block and drove
further along the Parkway where we could get off to the west and therefore we
were on the correct side heading south to get to the Natchez Trace Wilderness
Preserve. Our tiki tour did compensate though as we saw a deer crossing the road in front of us!

This is a huge complex, 830 acres and 670 sites, but a bit
disappointing in that all the lakeside sites seem to be taken with permanent
residents, most of which are not in residence, at least this week. Never mind, we found a reasonable site, water
and 30 amp, backing onto bush, so we will have afternoon shade if it gets too
hot. We have a concrete patio, a picnic
table and a grill. There is a swimming
pool over yonder, but we are too far away really to utilise it. The negative
here for us, is the very limited cell coverage, none at our site, and no
internet, although the Thousand Trails book advertises it. Sorry, all you guys back home who are worried
about us, we are good, just can’t tell you about it! Actually I've found that if you try the internet at odd times during the day or night sometimes I can get on it.
Once we set up, C&C & I go for a wander around Phase
2 of the camp, where we are situated.
There are a multitude of full timers here, totally ensconced, with picket
fences, huge patios etc. and they have bagsed all the lovely waterfront
sites. Golf carts are a plenty here and they all come out for a drive by late afternoon/evening.
