Sunny and hot again this
morning. We take our time packing up and
getting on the road, we don’t have a long ways to travel today. First stop is Best Buys down in Williamsburg
to take back my Kindle cover. An even
better outcome than expected, I now have a copy of the receipt for the drone as
well so we can claim the loyalty points for that. We see the road signs for Busch Gardens, a
local POI - I thought this was an actual garden, perhaps I was confusing it
with Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island, but it is just a theme park - won’t
feel deprived if we don’t go there today. Spent a bit of time shopping in TJ Maxx instead : )
Driving through the corn fields |
However, the route through
Williamsburg sets us up nicely to cross over the river to Chesapeake Bay on the
Virginia peninsula, a much more scenic route than going inland. There was a toll going this way which we
normally avoid, but it was only $2. It
also gives us our first glimpse of the sea we’ve had in three months!
Nice to see the sea again, we've missed you! |
After a stop for reprovisioning at
Walmart we arrive at camp around 3pm.
The temp is nice, hovering around 29C and the resort is very nice. It’s
on the Piankatank River which feeds directly to the ocean and down by the water
you can smell the sea. The resort boasts
two pools, an adult’s only and a family pool.
There is a huge pavilion with an adult’s lounge (there are a couple of giant jigsaws started in there, might go and help them out if we get tired of being outside) and a dining hall, there
are courts for basketball and pickleball (a cross between tennis, badminton and
ping pong - played with a paddle and plastic balls with holes, on a badminton
sized court with a net), baseball and volleyball fields, shuffleboard and putty
putt golf and a playground. There are
wharves and a fishing pier, a swim beach with sun loungers, three catch and
release fishing ponds and a Trading Post which sells cone ice creams!! We are here for four days and I think we will
like it! Our site is C66, on the right
hand edge of the park, in front of the trees.
The sites are wide with good space between and the neighbours in the
motorhome to our left aren’t even there.
We have full hook-up but paid $3 night for 50 amp. The only negative is no WIFI (but we do have
good cell coverage so the hotspot works great) and no TV (tee hee - what a shame)!
Our site over on right hand side |
