Saturday, 16 September – OK State Fair

Another hot one today!!  Mid 90’s – that’s 33C+ but some high cloud cover came over during the afternoon which took some of the sting out of it.  Checked on the Mama Sow today, she had 13 piglets last night and her neighbour looks like she will produce tonight.  More chicks have hatched, all is happy in the birthing centre.

Was late for the Vintage Glamping Demo, a cooking show produced out of an old airstream caravan.  Today’s was Healthy French Toast, as I missed most of the show didn’t feel I should in all good conscience wait around for a sample of the food.

I didn’t think The Live Shark Show would amount to much but it was very entertaining.  There are three nurse sharks in a  glass-sided tank, the largest shark is about 5 feet long.  The wrangler gets into the tank with them and does his show under water.  Informative, funny and actually rather impressive!  While we were waiting for the show to begin, music was playing which culminated in the Jaws music of course!  However before that I heard a country song I'd never heard before “Happy Birthday Julie”.  I googled it when I got back, it's by Wayne Hancock but then I found there are at least 16 other songs with "Julie" in the title!!  Who would have thought.

Today’s fair food was finally, been wanting one for ages, the Smoked Turkey Leg (ate less than a quarter of it, brought the rest back for cold meat for the rest of the week).  It was very salty, glad I didn't opt for the bacon wrapped version!  And the 'Cin & Corruption' which, with a gargantuan effort I managed to consume 100% of!!  Over fair food well and truly now!!

Huge Smoked Turkey Leg, felt like Wilma Flintstone eating it!!
Cinn & Corruption, there is icecream and cinnamon cookie pieces under all that topping!
As usual it gets too hot to walk around forever so back to the motorhome and the very welcome AC for a rest up before the evening’s activities.

The sky has darkened and there is a 20-30% chance of rain and/or thunder tonight for the Beatlemania Show.  But regardless of the very black sky to the east of us, no rain falls so our umbrella is not required.  We have good seats, got here early and the show starts on time.  The first half of the show, portraying the early days of the Beatles was much better than the second half, even with their costume change.  Glad we went though, it was nice to hear all that old music again and to know most of the words!
