Sunday, 30 July – Standish MI

It was a quiet night, the security team patrolled the park a couple of times.  But we thought we could hear gunshots in the not far enough away distance!!

Pottered, blogged, cleaned and it’s already 11.30 am.  Time to do something!

Still looking for some live music and I learn that Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper are playing in Clarkston MI on Tuesday night, 1 August.  Unfortunately Clarkston is behind us, closer to Detroit so won’t get there for the concert, maybe next time!

Also checked out the Nascar MI Speedway, there is racing weekend of 12/13 August and they have huge camping areas so will investigate that further.  The speedway is south east so would have to come back this way to make it.

We walked across to the casino for an ice cream, I asked for a small in a waffle cone and so did Kim but it had to be one of the biggest ice creams I’ve ever had to fight my way through.  We got them at the Burger Bar, weird huh!  On the way back we had a good look around the RV Park, over in one corner there are some very old grave stones, words just about eradicated by time.  Can just read the surname of Coon so appears a family plot.  There was an overgrown stream and well mown wide paths angling off the main floor plan.  One old residence graced the furtherest corner.  The Indians own all the gambling here in MI, with 20 casinos spread through the state but they temper it with some (token?) religion.

We do want to get up to the top of ‘the mitt’ (Michigan is shaped like a mitten) with Saginaw Bay resting between the thumb and fore finger.  The upper peninsula, above the mitt, is supposed to be endless forests and waterfalls with mineral streaked cliffs.  It sounds lovely and there are lots of state parks, campgrounds and three large casinos up there so should be easy enough to find suitable accommodation, hopefully!
