Friday, 30 June, Lake Gaston, NC

ABDIP! Today is our lucky day: Sandra and Lynwood have invited us out on their pontoon boat to show us Lake Gaston.  It is a man-made lake formed in 1963 when a hydro-electric dam was built on Roanoke River.  The Gaston Dam forms a beautiful inland lake 34 miles long and 1.3 miles across at its widest with 350 miles of shoreline.  Most of what we saw today in the two hours we were out on the lake, apart from the dam, were beautifully stunning lake houses with matching boat sheds dotting the shore.

OTT Lake Houses, they were everywhere!
Interesting,  there is no 5mph, no wake, zone here - probably 70% of the boats are pontoon boats, but even the runabouts drive close to the shore.  Anyone younger than 26 needs to sit a boating safety education course to operate a vessel of 10 hp or more.  There was a steady 15 knot breeze blowing down the channel but we only saw one sailboat, a HobieCat.

Photo from drone the other day, we live bottom right, but can't see it in the photo!

We have HH over with S&L, their site has the best and closest view of the lake, and they are well set up for visitors, with all their nice outdoor furniture and a nice level deck area.  The above photo just misses their site too.
