27 May, Saturday, Bossier City LA

Shreveport is actually two cities, Shreveport on the west side of the Red River and Bossier City on the east.  The paddle steamer in the photo is just one of the five casinos.  Riverboat gambling started here in the mid 1990's.  The famous Louisiana Boardwalk opened in 2005 on the Bossier City side and features outlet shopping, several restaurants, a 14 screen movie theatre, a bowling complex and a Bass Pro Shop, we are going there on Monday.  Yay, my turn for shopping : )

Red River between Shreveport and Bossier City LA
This morning the six of us are all going to catch a shuttle over to the Mudbug Madness Festival in Shreveport, across the river.  This is the most renowned Crawfish Festival in the south and features live Cajun and Zydeco music and Cajun and Creole food.  I think most of the residents of the Casino RV Park were here for this.  There was lots of food choice, Cajun Turkey Legs, Fried Shrimp Poboys, Bacon Wrapped Corn Dogs, and of course I had to try the boiled Crawfish, after all the festival is named in their honour!  They were served with sweet corn and two baked potatoes.  The bugs were spicy hot, glad I didn't add any extra seasoning, and a bit fiddly but I’ve had my fix.  Couldn't feel my lips for an hour afterwards!  Kim opted for a spicy mince pie/pasty arrangement.  Mark brought a plate of red velvet funnel cake for us to share – delish but everyone decided they could still fit in ice cream before we headed back.  Check out the Ice cream Wonderstick – yep, that’s all icecream in there and that's what I had.  The live music was toe tapping good and there were people up dancing too.  But my it was hot  and muggy – 33C!

Tiny taste for Kim, it was dirty work getting the meat out!

Icecream Wonderstick in cinnamon flavoured stick!
Got back to the RV in time to have a rest and maybe a swim to cool off before HH and then the Temptations Concert tonight over in the Casino’s Legends Theatre.  We wondered if would cancel this show as the bass player died last month, but his place is being taken over by the son of one of the original members.

It was a good night, they did some of the old faves, Papa is a Rolling Stone, Treat her like a Lady and finished up with My Girl, one my personal faves!
